Mohammed Qutubuddin Pasha, a minority leader from Metpally, has been appointed general secretary of the Jagtial district Congress party. District Congress president Gajangi Nandayya issued the orders on Wednesday and handed over the appointment letter to Pasha. The decision was taken by the Congress leadership under the leadership of TPCC delegate member Sujith Rao. Constituency Congress cadres, senior leaders, workers and members of the public met Pasha and congratulated him on securing the district-level post.
The Bhadradri Kothagudem district medical and health officer's office has invited applications to fill vacancies in palle and basti dawakhanas. The notification says 97 medical officer posts will be filled. Applicants must hold an MBBS degree and be registered with the TS Medical Council, with selection based on merit. A fire broke out at midnight below the Cheruvugattu Sri Parvathi Jadala Ramalingeswara Swamy temple hill in Narketpally mandal of Nalgonda district. Beginning in a toy shop, the flames destroyed 17 shops and 15 push-carts. Two gas cylinders exploded, spreading the fire to the gram panchayat office, where key records were burnt, officials said. Three fire engines brought it under control. The sarpanch put losses at about Rs 2.5 crore. No casualties were reported; a short circuit is suspected.
Manjeera Rachayitala Sangham (Marasam), a people's literary organisation formed four decades ago in the erstwhile Medak district, will hold its 40th anniversary meeting in Hyderabad on October 2. The session begins at 10 am at the Suravaram Pratapareddy Auditorium in the Basheerbagh Press Club. Along with a review of its 40-year literary journey, critics will speak on literature from women's, Dalit and Dravidian perspectives, followed by a poets' meet in the evening. A boy was found walking alone on the Karimnagar-Hyderabad Rajiv Rahadari near Renikunta toll plaza in Thimmapur mandal on Wednesday evening. Locals and toll staff noticed him and asked for his name and village, but he did not respond even when asked again later. They then informed LMD police, who took charge of the boy. Polling in the Munugode Assembly constituency bypoll began at 7 am on Thursday and will continue until 6 pm. The seven mandals in the constituency have 2,41,855 voters, including 1,21,720 men and 1,20,128 women. Authorities set up 298 polling booths at 119 centres, with 47 candidates in the contest. Farm labourers queued early. Voter slips with an identity card are mandatory. Officials are monitoring polling through webcasting. Police said mobile phones and selfies are barred inside polling premises.
Birthday celebrations for former Shadnagar MLA Elganamoni Anjaiah Yadav were held at the MLA camp office on Sunday. A specially prepared cake was cut by Anjaiah Yadav, and former Chegur PACS chairman Mamilla Vithal Mudiraj offered him birthday greetings. Vithal described Anjaiah Yadav as an uncrowned leader who worked for the constituency's development, saying that development is visible in every village. Chevella MLA Kale Yadaiah on Monday launched underground drainage works being taken up at a cost of Rs 5 lakh in Urella village of Chevella mandal, Rangareddy district, along with MPP Vijayalakshmi and ZPTC Malathi. He said villages were being given priority under CM KCR after Telangana's formation and developed on par with towns. Farmers staged a dharna and rasta roko on National Highway 61 at New Sangvi in Mamada mandal of Telangana's Nirmal district, demanding immediate procurement of their paddy and supply of sufficient gunny bags. They raised slogans against the government. The farmers said the grain brought for sale had remained unpurchased for a week and sought immediate procurement as rain was likely. Officials who reached the spot tried to persuade them, but they refused to withdraw. Vehicles were held up on the highway.
Four farmers died and six were seriously injured in two separate wall-collapse incidents in Kotthuru and Gampalapalli villages of Lakshettipet mandal, Mancherial district, after heavy rain and squally winds on Tuesday night. Those killed while covering paddy with tarpaulins were father and son Thanugula Nagaraju and Abhiram, Gundarapu Venkatesh of Kotthuru and Nelka Lachanna of Muthyampet. Four injured were shifted to Karimnagar. BRS general secretary Jeevan Reddy and former MLA Diwakar Rao visited the affected families.
Arrangements are complete for the Jubilee Hills Assembly byelection, with polling on November 11 from 7 am to 6 pm. The seat fell vacant after the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath. A total of 4,01,365 voters will cast ballots at 407 polling stations across 139 locations. Of 58 candidates, BRS's Maganti Sunitha, Congress's Naveen Yadav and BJP's Deepak Reddy are the main contenders. Security includes 1,761 police personnel, eight CRPF companies and 139 drones. The new collectorate building in Karimnagar has been readied for inauguration, with the event to be performed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, according to the Surya correspondent. The building has been decorated with flower garlands, marigolds and electric lights, and arrangements are complete for unveiling a Telangana Talli statue in front of it. District Collector Chitra Mishra personally supervised the stage, decoration, security, parking and protocol arrangements until night. The building has modern facilities.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged the Centre to confer the Bharat Ratna on former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and to set up a knowledge centre in his memory in New Delhi. He unveiled a memorial park and statue built by HMDA at Wipro Circle in Hyderabad's Financial District. He recalled Singh's liberalisation reforms and laws on education, information, employment guarantee and food security. Singh's signature on the Telangana formation Bill has been preserved at the park.
Two players from Shiva Shotokan Karate Academy in the erstwhile Warangal district won medals at the All India International WFSK Karate Championship held in Mumbai. Akarapu Goutham took gold in the under-13 kata event and silver in fighting. Bandameedi Krishival won gold in under-13 fighting and silver in kata. A mega job mela will be held on November 3 at the TNGOs Function Hall in Karimnagar, Vaishnavi Technologies chairman Kodityala Srikanth said. Around 100 companies will take part, with a target of about 5,000 jobs in IT, banking, marketing and technical manufacturing. The BJP SC Morcha laid siege to the Hyderabad Collectorate on Tuesday, demanding that SC Corporation funds not be diverted and be used for SC welfare. Led by Morcha state president Kanthi Kiran, leaders and workers marched to the Collectorate at Lakdikapul. Police blocked them from entering; some tried to climb the gate, leading to pushing and arguments. Police arrested the protesters and removed them. Kiran alleged the government had diverted Rs 10,000 crore allocated to the Corporation over three years.
Jogulamba Gadwal Collector Rizwan Basha Shaikh issued orders on Tuesday suspending three Gadwal municipality employees over alleged corruption in the collection of rent from municipal shops. The collector said Rs 11.28 lakh collected as shop rent was not deposited into the municipal account. Those suspended are Revenue Officer Rajesh Kumar, in-charge revenue inspector Rajavardhan and in-charge sharaf Rajavardhan Naidu. Additional Collector Narsinga Rao was named inquiry officer and asked to examine receipt books and records and submit a report.
A mild earthquake was felt in Telangana's Bhadradri Kothagudem district at 2:30 am on Saturday. Officials said the tremor measured 3.8 on the Richter scale. Shaking was reported in Kothagudem, Palvancha, Burgampadu and Bhadrachalam. The tremors were recorded 111 km northwest of the Rajamahendravaram area. As the quake struck at midnight, most residents did not notice it. Given the risk of such tremors along the Godavari banks, people remain anxious.
Police said a CCS special team with Saifabad police on Tuesday arrested Mohammed Faisal Shah Ali Jabri, 43, alias Abdullah, Sohail and Altaf, named in more than 180 chain-snatching cases in Hyderabad. A resident of Murad Nagar in Asifnagar, he has 14 non-bailable warrants pending across Telangana. After offences in 2023 under Saifabad, Moghalpura, Charminar and Nampally police limits, he shifted to Bengaluru and Rayachoti, evading arrest for three years.
