One accused had been jailed six times. In Kamareddy, an elderly woman was killed in Kothari Galli and chilli powder thrown in another woman's eyes in Kalkinagar to snatch a 5-tola chain the same day.
Farmers in Bichkunda mandal of Kamareddy district staged a dharna and rasta roko, saying irregular agricultural power supply was drying up their crops. Farmers from Sitarampalli, Manyapur, Shantapur, Rajapur and Jagannathpalli Chowrasta took part. They alleged electricity department officials did not respond to repeated calls, demanded action against negligent staff and 12 hours of uninterrupted supply. The protest was withdrawn after Bichkunda SI Gundela Raju persuaded them.
A man was killed by his wife in Gosangi Colony of Ward 20 under Kamareddy municipality, Telangana. According to police, Kodandam Lakshmi attacked her husband Shivaji with a sickle kept at home. He died on the spot after severe injuries to the neck. The couple reportedly had family problems for some time and frequent quarrels. Police shifted the body for post-mortem, took Lakshmi into custody, registered a case and are probing other angles.
Kamareddy district recorded the second-highest Red Cross membership enrolment in Telangana, and its representatives were felicitated by the state Governor at a function held to mark the achievement. The Governor's Secretary and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Special Chief Secretary Dana Kishore attended. Officials said district staff, departments, institutions and public representatives worked in coordination, and expressed hope the district would expand service activities and secure first place next year.
Kamareddy District Collector Ashish Sangwan toured Yellareddy mandal from morning to afternoon on Thursday. He inspected a nursery at Hajipur, a milk chilling centre at Gandimasanipet, mini tank bund works on the Pedda Cheruvu bund in Yellareddy town, the Machapur anganwadi centre, and the Matthamala primary health centre, high school and society office. Noticing litter at the PHC, he directed doctor Sharath Kumar to have it cleaned. He finally inspected an Indiramma house at Safdalpur and spoke with beneficiaries.
Farmers staged a protest, sitting on the road at Uppal Vayi village in Ramareddy mandal of Kamareddy district. They alleged that urea bags are not available on time and that information on the app is disorganised. The farmers said agriculture department officials are not conveying the details posted on the urea app to villagers, leaving them without urea. They demanded that the app system be cancelled and urea be distributed directly to farmers. Police reached the spot and tried to pacify them.
Kodanda Shivaji, 30, of Gosangi Colony in Kamareddy district headquarters was killed on Sunday night. According to CI Narahari, a quarrel broke out after Shivaji asked his wife Lakshmi to cook non-vegetarian curry and she refused. Lakshmi attacked him with a sickle, causing deep injuries to his throat and neck, and he died on the spot due to heavy bleeding. Neighbours informed police, who took Lakshmi into custody. The couple had been quarrelling for a week and have two daughters, aged one and two.
