ABVP student union leaders protested outside MIMS Junior College in Mancherial on Sunday, alleging that Intermediate classes were being held on holidays in violation of government rules, and complained to the District Intermediate Officer. The DIO conducted a surprise inspection and officials found special classes and examinations under way. The DIO said warnings barring holiday classes in private junior colleges had already been issued several times by email and social media. A full report will be submitted to Intermediate Board higher officials on Monday, with strict action against the management.
Blood donation can save many lives during emergencies, Mancherial Additional Collector (Local Bodies) P. Chandraiah said. Marking National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, a donation camp was held Thursday at the Integrated District Offices Complex in Naspur by the Indian Red Cross Society–Mancherial district blood bank centre. He said donated blood is valuable for thalassemia, sickle cell and anaemia patients and accident victims, and urged youth to come forward. Frequent blood and platelet donors were honoured with certificates and mementoes.
Four farmers died and six were seriously injured in two separate wall-collapse incidents in Kotthuru and Gampalapalli villages of Lakshettipet mandal, Mancherial district, after heavy rain and squally winds on Tuesday night. Those killed while covering paddy with tarpaulins were father and son Thanugula Nagaraju and Abhiram, Gundarapu Venkatesh of Kotthuru and Nelka Lachanna of Muthyampet. Four injured were shifted to Karimnagar. BRS general secretary Jeevan Reddy and former MLA Diwakar Rao visited the affected families.
District-level celebrations for the International Day of Older Persons will be held on October 1, Mancherial District Welfare Officer Rauf Khan said. The programme will begin at 10 am at the Integrated District Offices Complex in Naspur. It will create awareness on the welfare of older persons, protection of their rights, a dignified and peaceful life, and social security, and explain government schemes and services. Week-long programmes are under way until October 1. He urged officials, youth and elderly persons to attend in large numbers.
Ramagundam Police Commissioner Ambar Kishor Jha said the PD Act was invoked on Wednesday against a trader supplying spurious cotton seeds to villages under Tandur and Bhimaram police stations in Mancherial district. Voosa Subbarao of Giddaluru in Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, appointed agents and sold the seeds in several mandals. He was involved in cases from 2021 to 2025 and is an accused in nine cases. The order issued on the 10th was confirmed by the government, and he was shifted to Cherlapally Central Jail.
