Rahul, the younger son of village residents Ramesh and Akhila, was playing in front of his house and went onto the road to pick up a toy that had fallen there. A school bus from the mandal headquarters hit him, and its front and rear tyres ran over him, killing him on the spot. His parents were inconsolable.
BRS is holding 'atmiya sammelanam' outreach meetings across Warangal district, led by local MLAs, with public representatives, party functionaries and workers attending and CM K Chandrashekhar Rao's message being read out. At the March 23 meeting at Manideep Garden in Ramannapet, government Chief Whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, Mayor Gundu Sudharani and KUDA chairman Sundar Raj Yadav took part. On Monday, meetings are scheduled at Vajra Garden in Arepalli at 10 am and MS Gardens in Srinagar, Parvathagiri mandal, at 12 noon.
Rain, cloudy weather and high humidity could expose kharif chilli crops to sap-sucking pests and fungal diseases, Warangal district horticulture officer Srinivasa Rao said. To check root and stem rot, copper oxychloride at 3 grams per litre of water should be drenched at the plant base. He advised spraying imidacloprid 0.5 ml per litre for whitefly, prifonil 2 ml for thrips and dicofol 5 ml for mites. Officials also suggested 10-15 sticky traps per acre and measured fertiliser use.
Police in Warangal have warned that walking on main roads during morning hours, which begin from 4:30 am for many residents, is dangerous. They said drivers who operate vehicles through the night on national and state highways are drowsy in the morning and may not see pedestrians clearly. On September 26, a man walking at Karimabad, Janmabhoomi Junction, under Mills Colony police station limits died on the spot after a two-wheeler hit him; the rider was injured. Six months ago, a lorry hit a man on KU Road, breaking both his legs. Police advise walking in sports grounds, parks, indoor stadiums and on dedicated tracks.
Two players from Shiva Shotokan Karate Academy in the erstwhile Warangal district won medals at the All India International WFSK Karate Championship held in Mumbai. Akarapu Goutham took gold in the under-13 kata event and silver in fighting. Bandameedi Krishival won gold in under-13 fighting and silver in kata. India chief Hasan Mohammad Ismail Master, Telangana state president V. Chandrashekar Master, T. Parameshwar Master and chief instructor Noone Shivakumar congratulated them.
Bethi Ashok Babu, elected unanimously as Indian Red Cross Society Warangal district chairman, was felicitated by the traders' association, credit society and commission traders of Warangal's Lakshmipuram vegetable market. He was presented bouquets and honoured with a shawl. He served 16 years as district vegetable market secretary and continues as president of the market credit society. He is also general secretary of Ramky Villa Owners Association, Padmashali district youth president and vice-president of Cheyutha voluntary service society. MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy has appealed to farmers to cooperate with the land re-survey being conducted in the state. He inspected the re-survey programme in Agrampahad village of Atmakur mandal and asked officials about the progress of the process. He said the re-survey would provide a permanent solution to land problems, urging farmers to furnish land details transparently and officials to verify and record them on the ground. He later met beneficiaries of milch buffaloes given through the SC Corporation in Nerukulla, Kamaram and Penchikalapet villages. Mandal party president Jalandhar Reddy accompanied him.
A delegation from the Maldives visited Gangadevipalli, a national model village in Geesugonda mandal of Warangal district, on Friday under the aegis of the rural development institute. Led by course director Anjan Kumar Banja, the team examined the functioning of women's groups, self-help groups and children's groups. DRDA officials explained women's role in village development. Members said the handful-of-rice scheme impressed them, that their country has no women's groups, and praised Telangana's women welfare efforts.
The State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of an incident in which rats gnawed a man's body in the government area hospital mortuary at Wardhannapet in Warangal district. Chairperson Justice Shameem Akther acted on a Namasthe Telangana report. Gare Veeraiah (58) of Rayaparthi mandal died in a road accident and his body was kept in the mortuary overnight. The report cited no freezer, cold storage or power, sanitation lapses and a rat menace. The Collector must report by October 27.
