Head constable S. Swapna, serving at Bellampalli 1 Town police station, has been promoted as assistant sub-inspector and transferred to Tandur police station. A farewell function was held for her at the station under SHO K. Srinivasa Rao. Officers and staff honoured her with a shawl and garland, praised her service and wished her higher positions in future. Staff congratulated Swapna, of the 2009 batch, on her promotion. SI D. Farmers in Manthani mandal of Telangana's Peddapalli district said erratic power supply was leaving their crops to dry up. Naramalla Sravan Kumar of Khanapur village protested by riding his motorcycle across his cracked paddy field. Farmers said that despite the Kaleshwaram project and Godavari river being nearby, their fields get no irrigation water, and poor power quality is burning out borewell motors, adding to costs. They urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu to ensure uninterrupted quality supply.
On the Peddapalli district forest officer's orders, forest staff of the Manthani and Peddapalli ranges, with Mutharam police, carried out a cordon and search operation on Wednesday at Adivishrampur village in Mutharam mandal. They seized 2 hunting nets, 20 snares, 1 iron cage and 2 kg of binding wire. FRO M.V. Nayak warned that illegal tree felling and hunting of wildlife are punishable offences. Awareness programmes followed at Daryapur model school and Manthani government degree college.
Kamareddy district has seen a series of thefts targeting gold jewellery. In Banswada, 29 tolas of gold was stolen from the house of trader Chintala Bhaskar. Acting on CCTV footage, police detained two men at Boggu Gudise Chowrasta and seized 31 tolas of gold, 3 kg of silver, a two-wheeler and mobile phones, SP Rajeshchandra said. One accused had been jailed six times. In Kamareddy, an elderly woman was killed in Kothari Galli and chilli powder thrown in another woman's eyes in Kalkinagar to snatch a 5-tola chain the same day.
A review meeting was held at Sai Baba Function Hall in Narayankhed constituency, chaired by MLA Dr Patlolla Sanjeeva Reddy, as part of the Praja Palana–Pragathi Pranalika programme. He directed officials and public representatives to work in coordination so that government schemes reach people transparently, and to resolve public grievances quickly. Infrastructure facilities, pending development works and the progress of Praja Palana applications were reviewed. Sub-Collector Uma Harathi, officials of various departments and sarpanches attended.
A large python entered a house in Yadagiripalli of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. Locals said the snake was first seen on the road from Yadagiripalli to Mylargudem and later slipped into the house of Rachakonda Raju on the colony outskirts. A neighbour who noticed it alerted Raju's family. Family members and residents were alarmed as the python appeared near the house at night. Forest officials and a snake catcher caught the 9-to-12-foot python and released it in a forest. Residents were asked to report snakes without harming them.
Weldi Hari Prasad, a weaver from the Rajanna Sircilla district headquarters, has woven a special shawl carrying portraits of Dubai royal family members in thread on a traditional loom. The portraits of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed took about 15 days of work. It will be displayed at the ETCA Bathukamma celebrations in Dubai on the 11th of this month and then presented to the royal family under ETCA representative Pichara Kiran Kumar.
A notification has been issued to fill 33 vacancies under the National Health Mission in the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district medical and health department. Posts include 12 MLHP/CHO/MO Palle Dawakhana, nine staff nurses, five lab technicians, three second ANMs and one each in the remaining categories. Applicants must be aged 18 to 44, with relaxations for reserved categories. Offline applications open October 3 and close October 13. The fee is Rs 500 for General and OBC, Rs 300 for SC and ST. Selection gives 90% weightage to qualifying exam marks and 10% to age.
Adilabad police arrested and remanded two men accused of collecting money in instalments after promising government jobs. Shaik Farooq, a car driver from Bhagyanagar, took Rs 47,000 from Abhilash in May, promising an attender post in the rural development department; he faces two earlier cheating cases. In a second case, Are Praveen collected Rs 5.5 lakh from Erroju Krishnaveni for a hostel warden job, and two cheques he issued later bounced.
A three-year-old boy died after being hit and run over by a private school bus at Pittakalubodu Thanda in Nekkonda mandal of Telangana's Warangal district on Wednesday morning. Rahul, the younger son of village residents Ramesh and Akhila, was playing in front of his house and went onto the road to pick up a toy that had fallen there. A school bus from the mandal headquarters hit him, and its front and rear tyres ran over him, killing him on the spot. His parents were inconsolable.
Tappa Ramesh (42) was killed at Gattududdenapalli in Manakondur mandal of Karimnagar district late on Monday night. According to Manakondur CI P. Srilatha, Ramesh drank alcohol daily and quarrelled with and harassed family members. After another quarrel on Monday night, his wife Sumalatha and son Nikhil attacked him, and he died on the spot of serious injuries. Both later surrendered at the police station. Ramesh married Sumalatha in 2006 and they have two daughters and a son. Police conducted a panchanama, shifted the body to a government hospital, registered a case and are investigating.
Fine variety paddy grown in the rainy season at Rajapuram in Annapureddipalli mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district fetched Rs 3,450 a quintal. Farmer Puchchakayala Ganapathi Reddy of the village cultivated the 12368 fine paddy variety on 6 acres. Early transplantation brought the crop to harvest in the first week of October, and one acre was harvested on Tuesday, yielding about 30 quintals. Private traders competed to buy the grain. The state pays Rs 2,961 — Rs 2,461 support price plus Rs 500 bonus — Rs 489 less.
Telangana Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said Indiramma housing towers taken up as a pilot project under CURE would be completed and keys handed to beneficiaries within a year. He laid the foundation stone at Gajularamaram in Kutbullapur constituency, Medchal Malkajgiri district, on Tuesday along with Minister Sridhar Babu and MLA K.P. Vivekanand. Contractors finishing a month early get Rs 45 lakh and two months early Rs 90 lakh. Of over 7,000 applicants, 5,218 were eligible; 480 were picked by lottery in the first phase.
The movement of a leopard has caused alarm in Palsi village of Kubeer mandal in Nirmal district. On Tuesday, farmer Tavuti Ramulu spotted animal pugmarks in his agricultural field and immediately informed forest department officials. Officials Shivakumar and Shivaprasad reached the spot, inspected the marks and confirmed they were leopard pugmarks. Panic has since spread in the village. Officials advised farmers and residents to stay alert and not to enter fields alone.
Navratri celebrations are set to begin in Hyderabad. The 10th season of Celebrity Dandiya Nights 2026, organised by Hyderabad Models and Raghavi Media, will be held from October 9 to 20 at Flipside Adventure Park on ISB Road in the Financial District. The 12-day event will feature traditional dandiya, music, dance and entertainment as key attractions. Families, youth, celebrities, influencers, fashion models and figures from the entertainment industry are expected to take part.
The Chandupatla Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society in Bhuvanagiri mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district extended financial assistance to the families of members who died of illness. Heirs of Thotakuri Peddadanayya (54), Dommata Pentayya (85) and Kankala Lakshmi (46), who died recently, were given Rs 30,000 each, totalling Rs 90,000, on Monday from the members' dividend fund. Chairperson Jeelugu Satish Pawan handed over the aid, saying cooperatives should support members' families in difficult times and share in member welfare.
A resident of Jakkapur village in Narayanaraopet mandal of Siddipet district had applied at the panchayat for mutation of two houses in his name. Panchayat secretary Aruna initially demanded Rs 20,000 as bribe, and the amount was later settled at Rs 15,000. Acting on the complainant's report, ACB officials caught both as assistant Santosh accepted the money at the panchayat office around 11 am Tuesday and seized the cash. Medak ACB DSP Sudarshan said the accused will be produced before the ACB special court in Hyderabad.
State Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the people's government's aim is to deliver welfare and development benefits to every doorstep. On Sunday, at his residence near Sri Sri Circle in Khammam, he distributed cheques worth Rs 1,02,51,000 to 216 beneficiaries from Khammam Rural and Yedulapuram municipality areas. Of these, 51 beneficiaries in Khammam Rural mandal received Kalyana Lakshmi cheques, while 70 in Yedulapuram municipality and 95 in Khammam Rural mandal got CMRF cheques. He said the government stands by every poor family in distress.
A man was killed at Gattu Duddenapalli in Manakondur mandal of Telangana's Karimnagar district. According to police, Tappa Ramesh (42), a resident of the village, worked as an auto driver and had been quarrelling with his wife Sumalatha over family disputes. After another quarrel past midnight on Monday, their son struck Ramesh on the head with a stick and Sumalatha then hit him with a brick. He died of severe injuries. Both surrendered at Manakondur police station. CI Srilatham and SI Tirupati shifted the body to a government hospital for post-mortem.
