The Telangana Housing Board said beneficiaries of the Indiramma affordable housing scheme in 16 assembly constituencies under the Hyderabad Core Urban Region have only until the evening of October 9 to pay the Rs 1 lakh first instalment. Of 5,501 provisional allottees selected by lottery, 3,271 (59.46%) have paid. Kukatpally leads with 81.05% and Khairatabad is lowest at 17.16%. Vice-chairman V.P. Gautham said allotments will be cancelled after the deadline. About 35,000 applicants are waitlisted.
A 4.3-km, six-lane elevated corridor will be built from Jubilee Hills checkpost to the NFCL junction, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan said. Once complete, traffic will move without signal stops at five major junctions. Karnan said H-City works around KBR Park have been cancelled and the one-way system around the park will be made permanent. Executed under EPC in two packages of Rs 580 crore and Rs 510 crore, the project costs Rs 1,090 crore. Officials estimate savings of Rs 1,200 crore.
Hyderabad traffic police booked 380 motorists during special drunk-driving checks held on October 2 and 3 to curb road accidents. Of them, 343 were two-wheeler riders, 12 auto-rickshaw drivers and 25 drove four-wheelers and other vehicles. Official data showed 167 cases with blood alcohol concentration between 51 and 100, and three above 300. Police said drunk driving would not be tolerated and such special checks would continue.
The Telangana Housing Board has said Indiramma Towers beneficiaries in Hyderabad holding provisional allotment letters must pay the first instalment of Rs 1 lakh by October 9, failing which the allotment may be cancelled. In the first phase, 7,680 flats are planned across 16 assembly constituencies and letters were issued to 5,501 families; so far 3,271 (59.46%) have paid. Vice Chairman VP Gautam ruled out any extension. Unpaid flats go to waiting-list applicants.
Scientists, policymakers and industry representatives from across the world have gathered in Hyderabad for the International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant (ICMGP) to discuss mercury pollution and its health risks. It is the first time the city is hosting the event. Experts said mercury levels in the environment have risen 450% due to human activity, citing WHO and UNEP reports. The six-day meeting is discussing mercury use in gold mining, whitening creams and Ayurvedic medicines.
Begumpet Government Women's Degree College in Hyderabad has released a notification to fill guest faculty posts for the 2026-27 academic year. The posts will be filled in eight departments: English, Commerce, Political Science, History, Economics, Mathematics, Botany and Chemistry. Candidates must have completed postgraduation in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks, while SC and ST applicants need 50%. Those qualified in NET or SET, or holding a PhD in the relevant subject, will be given weightage in selection.
A prank message led police to a cricket betting operation under the Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) police station limits in Hyderabad. A young man jokingly messaged his girlfriend that he had been kidnapped. Alarmed, she called emergency number 112. Officers who reached the flat found no kidnappers but unaccounted cash of Rs 30 lakh along with mobile phones and tabs used for betting. Sumanth, Manoj and Gautham, from Andhra Pradesh, were arrested; the network is under investigation.
Hundreds protested at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad, demanding cancellation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. TPF, TVRF, NAPM, SIU, CJP and other civil society organisations jointly held the demonstration. Actor and social activist Prakash Raj attended and addressed the gathering. Demands included scrapping SIR, the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and repeal of the 2023 law on appointment, service conditions and tenure of election commissioners. Telangana's final roll is due on November 9. Protesters said they would hold a Delhi demonstration on October 10 if demands were unmet.
East Zone Task Force and Afzalgunj police arrested two interstate ganja smugglers transporting cannabis from Odisha to Hyderabad, seizing 11 kg of ganja and two cellphones. Police said Aman Hantati (22) and Raiman Goote (22), from Malkangiri in Odisha, worked as centring labourers in the city and turned to ganja supply as their income was insufficient. They struck a Rs 12,500 deal with Malkangiri seller Jino, collected the consignment at Bhadrachalam bus stand and travelled by private bus. They were held near JK Nursery while waiting to hand it to Vinod Singh of Dhulpet.
The Election Commission will issue the notification for the Jubilee Hills by-election on Monday. Nominations will be accepted till the 21st of this month, with scrutiny on the 22nd and withdrawal on the 24th. Polling is set for November 11 and counting for November 14. The by-election follows the death of MLA Maganti Gopinath. BRS has fielded his wife Sunita and Congress Naveen Kumar Yadav; the BJP candidate will be named Sunday. The segment has 3,98,982 voters and 407 polling stations.
Hyderabad district will hold the pulse polio programme from the 12th to the 15th of this month, Collector Harichandana Dasari said. Children aged 0-5 will be given polio drops at 2,843 centres, which will stay open from 7 am to 6 pm. The district has 5,17,238 children under five. On the 13th, 14th and 15th, 11,200 medical staff will cover households that missed the drops. Officials identified 164 high-risk areas. DMHO Dr Venkati and DMO Dr Ramulu attended the meeting.
Hyderabad cybercrime police have registered a case against 65 mirror websites, including iBomma and Bappam, for illegally uploading and distributing Telugu films. The action followed a complaint by the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce. The chamber alleged the sites upload high-definition copies of new theatrical releases and OTT exclusives within hours of launch. Officials said the sites keep changing URLs through proxy domains and that about 95% of piracy sites rely on Cloudflare. Investigation to identify key operators continues.
The weather department and the HYDRAA commissioner have warned of extremely heavy rain in Hyderabad from August 13 (Wednesday) to August 15 (Friday). North Hyderabad, Medchal district and Cyberabad may get 10-15 cm of rain, with up to 20 cm in some places. A common mobility card allowing travel on both RTC buses and Metro trains with a single pass became available in Hyderabad on Friday. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will launch the services at Praja Bhavan, Begumpet, at 12 noon. The daily pass costs Rs 400 and the monthly pass Rs 8,500. A refundable Rs 100 deposit applies to the card. It covers city buses within ORR limits but not Pushpak buses. The 'Mee Ticket' app offers a Rs 600 digital weekly bus pass and QR tickets.

The Telangana government launched a common pass allowing travel on both Hyderabad Metro and TGSRTC services with a single card at an event in Praja Bhavan. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar unveiled it. The daily pass costs Rs 400 (Metro Rs 300, RTC Rs 100) and the monthly pass Rs 8,500 (Metro Rs 7,000, RTC Rs 1,500). A Rs 100 security deposit applies and is refunded when the card is returned. It covers RTC city buses within the Outer Ring Road and all Metro trains.
Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), Hyderabad, has issued a notification to fill 310 ITI Trade Apprentice posts. Online applications opened on September 30 and close on October 11. Vacancies include 87 fitter, 86 electronics mechanic, 50 electrician and 41 COPA posts. Candidates need an ITI/NCVT certificate in the relevant trade and must be aged 18-25 as on October 31, 2026. Selection is based on ITI marks, with a monthly stipend of Rs 7,700 to Rs 8,050.
Jubilee Hills police on Thursday arrested four men who allegedly dressed as transgender persons to extort money, acting on the DGP's orders. On August 21, they stopped a youth arriving in a newly bought BMW at True Black Coffee shop on Road No. 45 and demanded Rs 5,000. A YouTuber's video posted on X prompted DGP CV Anand to order a probe. Police checked 500 CCTV cameras from Jubilee Hills to Boduppal over a month and held Ramesh (40), Satyanarayana (41), Ramesh (42) and Yadagiri (44) of Boduppal, inspector Satyanarayana said.
L&T has said the deadline to complete the transfer of its stake in the first phase of Hyderabad Metro Rail to the Telangana government has been extended to December 31, citing financial, structural and regulatory factors. Official documents earlier disclosed an agreement with the state government for the stake sale. Raising a large loan remains the main challenge, with the government and related agencies in talks with banks for a lower interest rate. L&T operates the metro through a special purpose vehicle.
