Adilabad District SP Akhil Mahajan visited the well-known Hassen Hussain shrine at Ruyyadi village in Talamadugu mandal on the occasion of Muharram. Villagers welcomed him with drum beats. The SP draped a shawl on the deities and later discussed the village's history, culture and traditions with residents at the village meeting hall. He said it was gratifying that all villagers conducted the festival together and urged people to celebrate all festivals peacefully. Tight police security has been arranged given the heavy turnout of devotees, he said.
Telangana Jagruthi president Kavitha said the condition of cotton farmers is distressing, speaking to the media in Adilabad on Tuesday. She said Cyclone Montha damaged the crop and alleged traders were cheating farmers citing moisture content. She demanded the government buy cotton with more than 20% moisture at the full support price. Questioning what MLAs and MPs were doing while CCI rules troubled farmers, she said Chanaka-Korata barrage works stopped after Congress took office.
Adilabad district has received a state-level award in recognition of its work on developing tourist sites, promoting tourism and providing better facilities for visitors. The award was presented on behalf of the state government by Special Chief Secretary Vani Prasad on the occasion of World Tourism Day. District Tourism Officer Ravikumar said the recognition reflects measures taken under Collector Rajarshi Shah's leadership, and that efforts continue to attract tourists from across the state. Ravikumar met the Collector at the camp office on Tuesday evening to convey congratulations.
District SP Akhil Mahajan said 35 police teams simultaneously inspected scrap shops in 10 mandals of Adilabad district to curb anti-social activities. The checks covered Adilabad One Town, Two Town, Mavala, Bela, Indervelly, Ichoda, Gudihathnoor, Neradigonda, Narnoor and Boath mandals. Several items were found at 13 scrap shops and cases are being registered at the respective police stations, he said. He warned of strict action against those buying stolen goods, vehicles and metals such as copper.

A tenant farmer, Sheikh Rafiq of Mannur village in Gudihathnoor mandal of Adilabad district, ploughed down his cabbage crop with a tractor after failing to get a remunerative price. He said he had leased two acres, and that the market rate of only Rs 3-4 per kg did not cover harvesting labour and transport costs. He put his investment at Rs 70,000 an acre and his loss at about Rs 1,50,000 an acre, besides lease of Rs 20,000 an acre. Last year the crop earned him Rs 1,50,000 profit an acre, he said, appealing for government support.

Preeti Munde of Heerapur village in Indervelly mandal, Adilabad district, has won the 'Miss Earth Water India 2026' crown. She represented Telangana at the 'Miss India Earth 2026' contest organised by 'Miss Divine Beauty' at Jaipur International Hotel in Rajasthan. She also received the 'Miss Congeniality 2026' subtitle. Munde will represent India at the international 'Miss Earth' event in the Philippines. She is pursuing a Master's in Yoga at Aurora University and works as a yoga teacher.
Five children have died so far in the fire that broke out on Monday night in the special newborn care unit at RIMS, Adilabad. Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha announced that, on the orders of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia will be given to each bereaved family. A preliminary inquiry found the AC unit caught fire due to an electrical short circuit. An expert committee, three safety audits and a 150-bed maternal and child health centre were ordered.
