Gubbala Rammohan Rao (60), a retired Singareni employee, was murdered in the Ganesh Temple area under Kothagudem 3 Town limits in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Police said two unidentified men entered his house on Monday (September 22) night while he was having dinner, attacked him, dragged him outside and hit him on the head with a hammer. He died on the spot due to severe bleeding. Three Town police, led by Kothagudem DSP Abdul Rehman, examined the scene with forensic and dog squad teams and are collecting CCTV evidence. The motive is yet to be established.
The Bhadradri Kothagudem district medical and health officer's office has invited applications to fill vacancies in palle and basti dawakhanas. The notification says 97 medical officer posts will be filled. Applicants must hold an MBBS degree and be registered with the TS Medical Council, with selection based on merit. Candidates must be 34 years of age as of July 1, with relaxation as per reservation rules. Forms from kothagudem.telangana.gov.in must be submitted at the DM&HO office by 5 pm on February 28.
A mild earthquake was felt in Telangana's Bhadradri Kothagudem district at 2:30 am on Saturday. Officials said the tremor measured 3.8 on the Richter scale. Shaking was reported in Kothagudem, Palvancha, Burgampadu and Bhadrachalam. The tremors were recorded 111 km northwest of the Rajamahendravaram area. As the quake struck at midnight, most residents did not notice it. Given the risk of such tremors along the Godavari banks, people remain anxious.

The Godavari water level at Bhadrachalam was recorded at 42.80 feet at 8 pm on Sunday, close to the first warning level of 43 feet. The level rose from 36.60 feet at 1 am. About 9.22 lakh cusecs is being released downstream. Six spillway gates of the Taliperu project were opened. Crops were damaged in Kasinagaram and Pragallapalli villages of Dummugudem mandal. Officials said the level would remain steady as upstream rain eased.
The Godavari water level at Bhadrachalam is rising steadily due to floodwaters coming from upstream. The flow, which stood at 17 feet two days earlier, crossed 40 feet by Sunday morning. Many steps at the bathing ghats have been submerged as a result. Officials are set to issue the first flood warning if the water level reaches 43 feet.
Telangana Praja Palana Dinotsavam was observed on September 17 at the Bhadradri Kothagudem district SP office. SP Rohit Raju IPS unfurled the national flag and took part in the event with police officers and staff. He said that though India gained independence on August 15, 1947, Hyderabad state remained under Nizam rule and merged with the Indian Union on September 17, 1948, after Operation Polo led by Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Public safety and law and order are the police department's main responsibility, he said.
