Early Bathukamma celebrations were held at Sri Raja Rajeswara Sanskrit School in Vemulawada. Temple Executive Officer L. Ramadevi attended as chief guest and played Bathukamma with students and teachers. Girl students arranged Bathukammas with flowers and sang traditional songs, while boys performed kolatam and dandiya. Ramadevi said Bathukamma symbolises Telangana culture and reflects people's bond with nature. She later carried the Bathukamma on her head for immersion. Supervisors Venkatalakshmi, Pujitha, the principal and teachers participated.
Nalgonda district SP Sharath Chandra Pawar received petitions from 53 people who came from various villages to the 'Grievance Day' held at the district police office on Monday. He directed officers to inquire thoroughly at the field level into complaints relating to land disputes, family feuds and financial frauds, and resolve them quickly as per law. He asked officials to respond immediately and deliver impartial justice, adding that delays would not be tolerated and case progress would be monitored continuously.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has taken into custody the Rangareddy district medical and health officer (DM&HO), a health inspector and a private car driver who acted as a middleman in a Rs 1 lakh bribery case. According to the ACB, Rs 2 lakh was demanded to return the keys of a physiotherapy centre sealed for operating without a licence, drop further action and grant a new licence. Acting on the owner's complaint, officials trapped the driver and recovered the money. The accused are being produced before the special court.
Hyderabad traffic police booked 380 motorists during special drunk-driving checks held on October 2 and 3 to curb road accidents. Of them, 343 were two-wheeler riders, 12 auto-rickshaw drivers and 25 drove four-wheelers and other vehicles. Official data showed 167 cases with blood alcohol concentration between 51 and 100, and three above 300. Police said drunk driving would not be tolerated and such special checks would continue.
MLA Madhusudan Reddy said the Congress government has launched a breakfast scheme in schools so that students do not remain half-hungry. He launched the scheme at the Zilla Parishad High School in Chinnachintakunta mandal headquarters and had breakfast along with the students. He later inspected the government junior college and spoke to students about their problems. When students sought the filling of a vacant commerce lecturer post, he directed officials to speak to the DEO immediately and appoint a lecturer.
A new Jana Vignana Vedika district committee for Mahabubabad was elected unanimously for 2026-28 at the organisation's 6th district conference. Chirra Yakanthagoud was elected district president, Agurti Suresh general secretary, Gade Naveen Chekimukhi convener and Uppala Srinivasulu treasurer. Speaking at Kesamudram on Monday, Yakanthagoud said the body's main aim is to remove superstition and build scientific temper. He said science exhibitions and awareness programmes would be held in schools and colleges, and fake medicine and social media misinformation countered with scientific evidence.
The Telangana Housing Board has said Indiramma Towers beneficiaries in Hyderabad holding provisional allotment letters must pay the first instalment of Rs 1 lakh by October 9, failing which the allotment may be cancelled. In the first phase, 7,680 flats are planned across 16 assembly constituencies and letters were issued to 5,501 families; so far 3,271 (59.46%) have paid. Vice Chairman VP Gautam ruled out any extension. Unpaid flats go to waiting-list applicants.
Peripaka Deepak assumed charge on Monday as district registrar of Stamps and Registrations in Mahabubnagar. He took up the responsibilities at the district registrar office, where sub-registrars and staff welcomed him and offered congratulations. He was appointed in place of D. Phanindar, the earlier district registrar, who moved out on transfer. Deepak said transparent services would be provided in the registration department and steps taken so that people face no difficulties. He added that focus would be on records management and faster services.
Jagtial District Collector B. Satya Prasad has directed officials to conduct a thorough inquiry into complaints and petitions received through Prajavani and resolve them promptly. He received grievances from the public at the programme held on Monday at the collectorate auditorium. A total of 67 complaints and petitions were received. He asked officials not to keep applications pending, to settle them within the stipulated time and inform applicants. Additional Collector B. Raja Goud, DRO K. Y. State Revenue, Information and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Excise and Culture Minister and district in-charge Jupally Krishna Rao held a review at the Nirmal collectorate on Monday. They discussed land issues, record maintenance, registrations and stamps, implementation of housing schemes, beneficiary selection and construction progress. Officials were told to clear pending applications within deadlines and monitor house construction at field level. The ministers also asked collectors about performance across the erstwhile Adilabad districts.
BJP candidate Konda Satya Yadav has won the Narayanpet municipal chairman post. He secured 13 votes, including the ex-officio vote, while the Congress candidate received 11 votes. TRS members remaining neutral and the party avoiding internal differences worked in the BJP's favour. The party gained control of the municipality through key alignments. Manjula Raghavender Reddy was elected vice chairman.
Scientists, policymakers and industry representatives from across the world have gathered in Hyderabad for the International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant (ICMGP) to discuss mercury pollution and its health risks. It is the first time the city is hosting the event. Experts said mercury levels in the environment have risen 450% due to human activity, citing WHO and UNEP reports. The six-day meeting is discussing mercury use in gold mining, whitening creams and Ayurvedic medicines.
Daram Supraja (31) of Maripeda in Telangana's Mahabubabad district died in a road accident in the United States. She ran a restaurant in St. Louis, Missouri, with a friend from Kodad. On Saturday night, after closing the restaurant and heading home, a truck hit the car she was travelling in and she died on the spot. Her friend in the car was seriously injured. Daughter of Daram Srinivas and Jyothi of Simhadri Nagar in Khammam district's Yedulapuram, she married Kodumuru Ranjith, a software employee from Maripeda, four years ago. They have a three-year-old son, Sai Advaith.
A review of Nizamabad district's health department was held Monday at the Secretariat, chaired by Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha. Former minister and Balkonda MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy sought early completion of the 100-bed area hospital under construction at Bheemgal, a new PHC in Mortad mandal, a new building for Balkonda CHC, an MRI machine for the Government General Hospital and filling of vacant posts. The minister said Nizamabad GGH is being developed as a referral centre, with super speciality services to start in phases.
Begumpet Government Women's Degree College in Hyderabad has released a notification to fill guest faculty posts for the 2026-27 academic year. The posts will be filled in eight departments: English, Commerce, Political Science, History, Economics, Mathematics, Botany and Chemistry. Candidates must have completed postgraduation in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks, while SC and ST applicants need 50%. Those qualified in NET or SET, or holding a PhD in the relevant subject, will be given weightage in selection.
A prank message led police to a cricket betting operation under the Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) police station limits in Hyderabad. A young man jokingly messaged his girlfriend that he had been kidnapped. Alarmed, she called emergency number 112. Officers who reached the flat found no kidnappers but unaccounted cash of Rs 30 lakh along with mobile phones and tabs used for betting. Sumanth, Manoj and Gautham, from Andhra Pradesh, were arrested; the network is under investigation.
The office of the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Rangareddy district in Telangana, has invited applications to fill 13 posts on a contract basis. They include six medical officer and two pharmacist posts, and one each of psychologist, DEIC manager, staff nurse, lab technician and social worker. Depending on the post, candidates need Intermediate, a diploma, GNM, PG or MBBS, with Telangana Medical Council registration. Age limit is 18-34 years; pay is Rs 21,000-Rs 40,000 a month. Selection is on academic merit and reservation. Offline applications close May 9, 2022.
Former Palair MLA Kandala Upender Reddy on Sunday visited agricultural labourers from Kamanchikal village in Khammam Rural mandal who were injured in a road accident two days earlier. He went house to house to meet those being treated at home, enquired about their health and handed over financial assistance. He also met victims undergoing treatment at the Khammam government hospital and asked health staff to provide better care. He paid tributes at the home of Donthusarapu Bharatamma, who died in the accident, and gave her family financial help, assuring BRS support.
MLA Mynampally Hanmantha Rao responded to rumours of a constituency change, saying he will contest only from Malkajgiri. He alleged that some people were deliberately spreading falsehoods on social media claiming he would contest from Kutbullapur or Medchal. Positions were not important and party workers were, he said, adding he was ready to sacrifice his life for them. He resigned from the BRS on Friday. Congress leader Narsa Reddy Bhupathi Reddy invited him to the party. He is unhappy his son Rohith was denied the Medak ticket.
