A resident of Sullurpeta in Tirupati district urgently needed two B+ SDP blood donors for surgery. After the patient's family approached them, Chiranjeevi Seva Sangham president Mabhasha and member Chaitanya travelled to Chennai and donated SDP blood to the patient at Gleneagles Hospital. Mabhasha said the group takes part in service activities inspired by Megastar Chiranjeevi, and appealed to people to donate blood voluntarily, calling it a social responsibility.
About 35,147 students from nearly 170 government and private schools joined the 'Swachh Pathasala' programme held by the Mangalagiri–Tadepalli Municipal Corporation under the Union government's 'Swachhata Hi Seva–2026'. Officials said students brought dry waste from their homes to collection points at schools, yielding around 50,000 kg. Dr Ullaji Eliazar, joint secretary of World Book of Records, London–South Region, reviewed the event at LEAP ZP High School, Nidamarru, and handed a certificate to commissioner Sheikh Aleem Basha.
Officials have decided to start bamboo harvesting in Alluri Sitharama Raju district from the first week of October. A video conference chaired by the SERP CEO on Wednesday was attended by the PCCF, district collectors, DFOs and PD-DRDAs. Under the DAY-NRLM Bamboo Subsector Programme, Andhra Pradesh has a target of 35,000 farmers for 2026-27, with 5,000 farmers across 11 mandals in Alluri district. So far 3,504 farmers have enrolled and 1,54,100 saplings been distributed.
Hyderabad-based AM Green Ammonia has won the Asia segment of the German government-backed H2Global auction, signing a ten-year contract to supply renewable ammonia worth at least Rs 5,500 crore. Hintco, H2Global's trading arm, will purchase the output. AM Green is converting a natural gas-based ammonia and urea complex at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh into a green ammonia plant compliant with European Union rules. The company said first supplies to Germany begin in 2029, shipped through Kakinada Port.
Minister Nara Lokesh said he had reached his present position because of the sacrifices and hardships of TDP leaders and workers. He spoke at the concluding session held after the oath-taking of the party's new national and state executive bodies at the TDP central office in Mangalagiri. He called his appointment as national working president of the 44-year-old party an honour. Citing pension hikes, free gas cylinders and job recruitment, he said Google, TCS and Reliance were investing in the state.
Chittoor district has been allocated Rs 1,529.69 crore under the Rayalaseema Integrated Horticulture Development Plan. Twenty horticulture clusters will be developed across 27 mandals over three years — five in 2026-27, eight in 2027-28 and seven in 2028-29. The largest share, Rs 620.40 crore, is earmarked for micro irrigation. Cold storages, processing units and marketing facilities are also planned. Chief Minister Chandrababu and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will launch the project at Madanapalle on Friday, Gandhi Jayanti.
Awaaz Committee leaders on Wednesday submitted a petition to MLA Prattipati Pullarao seeking the immediate resumption of stalled construction of a minority girls' gurukul school at Tatapudi village in Chilakaluripet. They said the Rs 18 crore project, for which the foundation stone was laid between 2014 and 2019, had come to a halt, leaving Muslim girls deprived of education. The MLA said the matter had already been brought to Chief Minister Chandrababu's notice and assured that works would begin and be completed soon. Awaaz district president Sheikh Fairoz and CPM leader Venkateswarlu took part.
Police arrested three men in the murder of Moddu Venkateswarlu, husband of YSRCP sarpanch Nagalakshmi, in Dornala mandal of Prakasam district. He was stabbed to death near the Korraprolu graves on the night of the 9th of this month. DIG CM Trivikrama Varma and SP Malika Garg said a helmet and slippers left at the scene led to the accused. Police cited a dispute from last year's sarpanch election. A motorcycle and a cellphone were seized.
A rare pangolin was found in a pit dug for a bathroom during house construction on farmer Vempa Subbaraju's field at Gollalapalem village in V. Madugula mandal of Anakapalli district. The family informed forest officials. Venkatesh, skilled at handling wild animals, rescued it safely and released it in nearby forests in the presence of officials. The pangolin is a nocturnal mammal feeding on ants and termites, and faces threats from poaching and illegal trade.
MLA Nandyala Varadarajula Reddy distributed house sanction letters to 83 beneficiaries at a programme held on Wednesday in Sambayyagari Street, Proddatur. He said 401 houses have been sanctioned in the town so far across three phases. Each house receives Rs 2.50 lakh in combined assistance from the central and state governments, he said. Eligible people owning house plots were asked to apply under phase two of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban. Housing PD Rajaratnam, EE Ramana Reddy and Municipal Commissioner Vishwanath attended.
Students from about 50 government and private schools within the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation limits took part in a science and art exhibition at Anam Kalakendram, held as part of Swachhata Hi Seva–2026 organised by the corporation. Exhibits included a vibration-based fencing system to keep wild animals away from railway tracks, a smart dustbin that sends an SMS or app alert to staff once full, and a project on separating wet and dry waste at home. Teachers and officials appreciated the students.
Two men were arrested in Kottalacheruvu Gudem of Atmakur mandal, Nandyal district, for tying a nine-year-old girl to a pole over suspicion of theft. Atmakur DSP Ramanji Naik said the girl went to a shop on August 17 to buy snacks, after which a cash box went missing. Shop owner Nenavath Rajunaik and his brother-in-law Mallu Naik allegedly held her from 4 pm to 7 pm and circulated a video. Police seized a cellphone and sent both to remand following her mother's complaint.
As part of the Andhra Pradesh government's 'Trishul' initiative, the Alluri district police held an awareness programme and rally at Ambedkar Junction in Paderu. Led by SP Amit Bardar, the event outlined zero-tolerance goals on crimes against women, road accidents and drugs. Officials said the district has recorded 32 cases of crimes against women, 4 POCSO cases, 103 road accidents including 69 fatal, and 81 NDPS cases with 10,625 kg of ganja seized.
Film actor Nani visited Sri Kanaka Durga at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy temple atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada on Wednesday. Nani, who is currently acting in the film 'Paradise', was welcomed by temple officials with temple honours, and special darshan arrangements were made for him. Special pujas were performed after the darshan and Vedic scholars offered blessings. Officials later presented him with the goddess's prasadam and seshavastram.
Two young men died of electric shock at Bommala Centre in Thotavaripalem, Chirala mandal, on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Katthi Issaku (22) and Tiruvidhula Shyam (21), residents of Vaikunthapuram in Chirala mandal, near the Jalamma temple. They had gone for daily wage work and were doing polishing work at a house under construction in Thotavaripalem when they were accidentally electrocuted and reportedly died on the spot. Rural police examined the site and shifted the bodies to Chirala area hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way.
A medical camp was held at the Adoni municipal office on Wednesday, where sanitation staff underwent health examinations. Kits were distributed to the workers after the check-ups. The municipal commissioner said full-body medical examinations were conducted for staff working in the drainage and septic tank sections. He said the camp was organised keeping the health of the sanitation workers in view.
Saripalli Nagaraju of Vizianagaram district, born into an ordinary farming family, has risen to become a government degree lecturer. Inspired by his elder brother, he studied a five-year integrated Telugu Pandit course at Sri Gorentla Venkanna College in Thimmasamudram, Prakasam district. He secured third rank at state level in the Language Pandit SET and completed MA and PhD at the central university in Hyderabad. He said he obtained three jobs in the 2025 DSC. He now serves as Telugu lecturer and in-charge principal at the government degree college in Rayadurgam, Anantapur district.
Police rescued six people stranded in floodwaters at the Gundlakamma drinking water scheme in Addanki, Prakasam district. Three employees were stranded first, and three who went by boat to help were also stranded when the boat capsized. All climbed a tree and were located by drone. Relief work was intensified on Minister Gottipati's orders. Collector Rajababu and MLA B.N. Vijay Kumar inspected the reservoir, where 11 gates were opened to release floodwater downstream.
The 'Seva Sankalp Bike Yatra', being conducted from Tirupati to Varanasi, reached Srikalahasti on Wednesday. MLA Bojjala Venkata Sudhir Reddy welcomed the team and joined the bike rally. The riders later visited the Srikalahasteeswara Swamy temple and offered prayers, after which the MLA handed over theertha prasadam. He said the yatra, held by Yuvagalam and TNSF on Nara Lokesh's directions, covers about 2,000 km and marks 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public life.
