Palakonda police released the publicity poster for "Mee Police – Meeku Telusa?", a quiz contest marking the 80th Independence Day celebrations. Circle Inspector A. Prasad Rao, SI D. Venkanna, the municipal commissioner and the MPDO took part in the launch. Students under 21 will answer 30 multiple-choice questions in 30 minutes on cyber crime, drug abuse, road safety, crimes against women, human trafficking and police duties. The test is at Palakonda Government Junior College at 10 am on 14-08-2026, with first, second and third prizes.
The 'Satavahana Grameena Santa' opened on Monday at Revenue Gardens in Karimnagar, with the stated aims of promoting indigenous products, protecting the environment and safeguarding health. Organised by Grama Bharati, the exhibition has 40 stalls, with handloom fabrics, organic food items, clay pots, handicrafts and herbal health products among the main attractions. Chief guest Pendyala Keshava Reddy and neurologist Dr Vikram Singh Thakur said patronising indigenous products would generate employment for local artisans and rural craftspeople. They urged promotion of eco-friendly products for a plastic-free society.
Jangaon District Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha, along with RDO Kiran Prakash, inspected the Telangana Social Welfare Gurukul School at Palakurthi mandal headquarters on Monday and sought details on reports that students were bitten by rats on the 22nd of this month. Students said they had no fever or bleeding and that food was good. The collector said no bite marks or scratches were found and urged people not to believe rumours. He expressed dissatisfaction with panchayat secretary Srinivas Reddy over sanitation.
Devotees expressed anger after the issue of Srivani darshan tickets was stopped at the Renigunta airport in Tirupati. They argued with staff, questioning why the tickets were halted without prior notice. Devotees who had travelled from distant places faced difficulties. Airport Director K.M. Bhuminath recognised the problem and spoke to senior TTD officials by phone, explaining the situation. Officials responded on his initiative and restarted the issue of tickets, ending the dispute.
Kumbhala Rajavva, mother of journalist Kumbhala Ravi of Peddacheekodu village in Dubbak mandal of Siddipet district, died recently. On Tuesday, National Mala Mahanadu state polit chairman Ryakam Sriramulu, Dubbak constituency in-charge Kalva Naresh, mandal presidents Mandala Yadagiri and Daraswamy, Ambedkar Sangham president Kalva Lingaiah, Bakkulu Bavaji and Ramesh visited the family. They garlanded Rajavva's portrait and paid tributes, describing her death as an irreparable loss to the family.
Medak MLA Dr Mynampally Rohit Rao laid foundation stones for CC road and drainage construction works worth Rs 2.93 crore in Medak town. The works will be taken up in wards 31, 30, 23, 22, 20, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21 and 28. He said every ward would get equal priority and that funds were being brought with state government support. Kancharla Madhusudan Naidu, son of Kancharla Srinivasulu Naidu, president of the ex-servicemen's association in Madanapalle, died in a recent road accident. Madanapalle Congress senior leader S. Reddy Saheb paid tribute to his body and later met family members to convey condolences. He said the death at a young age was distressing and urged Srinivasulu Naidu, known for service activities among people, to remain courageous. Congress leaders and workers took part in the tribute.

World Tourism Day was observed on Sunday at the PGRS hall of the Nandyal collectorate. Prizes were given to winners of essay-writing, painting and short-film competitions. District Tourism Officer Sunil Kanna said 28 well-known tourist sites have been identified in the district, and that Belum Caves in Kolimigundla mandal extend about 2.49 km.
A special mega grievance programme was held at Subham Function Hall in Markapuram town of Markapuram district. District Collector M. Vijaya Sunita, MLA Kandula Narayana Reddy and Joint Collector Puli Srinivasulu took part and received petitions from the public. Officials said 121 petitions were received in all. The Collector said the programme is being held on four consecutive Fridays and every petition would be resolved within that period. The MLA asked those yet to apply to attend coming Fridays.
A consecration ceremony for a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was held on Sunday at Machanpalli village in Mahbubnagar Rural mandal. Attending as chief guest, MP DK Aruna garlanded the statue and said Shivaji was a symbol of courage, the establishment of self-rule and dharma, and that youth should take him as a role model. She said he was a great man who regarded every woman as equal to his mother. MLA Srinivas Reddy said Shivaji left an indelible mark on people across the country, not just one region. A 62-foot Ganesh idol installed at Relli Peta in Palakollu as part of the Ganesh festival was immersed, followed by a large-scale anna samaradhana, or community feeding. Local devotees participated in large numbers. In the laddu auction held on the occasion, the deity's first laddu was secured by a devotee, Gubbala Rakesh, for Rs 99,999. The second laddu fetched Rs 86,116, while Singampalli Brothers won the third for Rs 48,000.
People of nine villages in Vallur mandal say they are facing hardship after the APSRTC bus service from Kadapa to Pushpagiri via Vallur and Adinimayapalli was suspended. Locals said students, women, farmers, employees and small traders are affected, and that people now walk about eight kilometres from Pushpagiri to Vallur. The depot manager said the bus slipped off the road and was damaged in recent rains, repairs are complete and the service will be restored.

High Court judge Bhanumathi on Sunday inaugurated the newly set up 1st Additional Magistrate Court in the court complex at Gooty town in Anantapur district. She was presented a guard of honour before opening the building and inspecting the facilities provided there. High Court judges Suresh Reddy and Challa Gunaranjan, district judges, lawyers and court staff attended. Legal circles said hearings in pending cases would be speeded up. Gooty Bar Association representatives felicitated Bhanumathi.
The 131st birth anniversary of Chakali Ailamma was observed in Narayankhed town of Sangareddy district. MLA Pattolla Sanjeeva Reddy garlanded her statue and paid tribute. He said Ailamma's services in the armed peasant struggle waged for land and livelihood were unforgettable. The MLA said the Congress government honours the services of Telangana's women fighters and that Koti Women's College in Hyderabad has been named after Ailamma. TVS Charitable Trust president Thota Venkateswara Rao has adopted the Vengalarao Nagar BC boys' hostel in Kavali town. On Sunday, items needed by the students were handed over to hostel warden Bandi Chalapathi Rao, after which saplings were planted on the premises. Union Minister Kishan Reddy and Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy inspected modernisation works at Vikarabad railway station, being taken up at a cost of Rs 27 crore. The works include a canteen, an escalator, two lifts and special facilities for persons with disabilities, and are to be completed by the end of this year. Officials said 42 stations across Telangana are being developed simultaneously. At Chevella, the minister questioned officials over delays in the Hyderabad-Bijapur road works, citing accident risk from excessive curves, and promised a special review meeting.
Doodimetla Linganna, a resident of Ayyagaripelli village in Mahabubabad district, died of a heart attack. On learning of the death, Government Whip and Dornakal MLA Dr Jatoth Ramachandra Naik reached the village and paid respects to Linganna's body. He later met the bereaved family, conveyed his deep condolences and sought to console them. Kuravi mandal Congress president Balagani Srinivas Goud, sarpanches, public representatives, Congress leaders and workers took part.
