As he crossed, the flood flow increased and he fell into the water. Villagers and police searched with a rescue team, but he was not traced till evening.
Husnabad Municipality in Siddipet district conducted a special sanitation drive at Sri Yellamma Temple on World Tourism Day as part of Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026. Chairperson Dandi Lakshmi, who attended as chief guest, said the temple was an important spiritual and tourism site for the town and urged devotees to keep the premises clean and use designated bins. Vice Chairperson Chittari Padma, councillors, co-option members and municipal staff later cleaned the temple surroundings.
Ahead of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's visit on the 30th of this month to inaugurate the newly built collectorate building in Karimnagar, Collector Chitra Mishra directed officials to complete arrangements that stand as a model for the state. She held a review with CP Gaus Alam on Saturday, asking that VIPs, ministers, MLAs and public representatives face no inconvenience and that sanitation, drinking water, power, parking, mic system and press gallery work be coordinated. Managers of a goshala within the Krishnagiri temple premises near Basireddipalli in Parigi mandal of Telangana's Vikarabad district said a tiger attacked a cow there. The animal died of severe neck and abdominal injuries, with claw marks found on its back. A calf was carried away three days earlier. Manager Krishnaswamy said the goshala houses about 200 cows. Police and forest officials examined CCTV footage from an adjoining farmhouse and launched joint efforts to capture the tiger.
Dantala Ramesh Babu of Kalvakurthy in Nagarkurnool district wrote that the research-based article 'Environmental destruction in Vikarabad forests', published on the Velugu Open Page on September 25, gave readers good awareness. He said a balanced climate is what allows flora and fauna to thrive in the rural areas of Vikarabad and Tandur, and that interior areas of Rangareddy district receive irrigation and drinking water. The Dindi Project, built on RR, Combined Palamuru and Devarakonda covering RR in parts of Nalgonda, is the property of Telangana farmers, he said, adding that public support is essential to protect the reserved forest.
A toddy tapper died of electric shock at Marripadu village in Sangam mandal of Nellore district. Pandi Mahendra, 40, was reportedly repairing electrical wiring at his home when he accidentally received the shock. Family members said they tried to take the seriously injured man to a hospital, but he had already died. Mahendra is survived by his wife and two sons. The death of the family's main earner has cast a pall of gloom over Marripadu village.
Telangana Praja Palana Dinotsavam was observed on September 17 at the Bhadradri Kothagudem district SP office. SP Rohit Raju IPS unfurled the national flag and took part in the event with police officers and staff. He said that though India gained independence on August 15, 1947, Hyderabad state remained under Nizam rule and merged with the Indian Union on September 17, 1948, after Operation Polo led by Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Public safety and law and order are the police department's main responsibility, he said.
Two of five intermediate students who went swimming in the Mid Manair reservoir at Gopalaraopalli in Thangallapalli mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district drowned on Friday morning. The deceased were identified as Haricharan Goud (18) of Shantinagar in Sircilla town and Manikanta (17) of Chirlavancha R&R Colony. According to preliminary information, Manikanta could not swim and clung to Haricharan as he was swept along; both drowned during the rescue attempt. The other three are safe. Police shifted the bodies for postmortem, registered a case and began an investigation.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will perform the bhumi puja tomorrow for Indiramma Houses Towers comprising 480 flats at KPHB Colony. In the first phase, the government has sanctioned 7,340 flats at 18 locations across 16 assembly constituencies under CURE at an estimated Rs 807.40 crore. Each flat has 400 sq ft carpet area with a Rs 5 lakh subsidy; the beneficiary share is Rs 6 lakh. Reservations: SC 14%, ST 5%, BC 16%. Applications close August 15, 2026.
The 131st birth anniversary of Telangana armed struggle figure Chakali Ailamma was observed on Saturday at Ravicheted village in Kadthal mandal, Rangareddy district. Led by ward member and Rajaka Sangham president Somaraju Ravikumar, participants garlanded Ailamma's statue and cut a cake. Ravicheted sarpanch Boppidi Gopal, district vice-president of the sarpanches' association, said Ailamma symbolised Telangana's self-respect and had fought Razakars and landlords for land, livelihood and freedom from bonded labour. Public representatives and Rajaka Sangham members attended.
Kamareddy District Collector Ashish Sangwan toured Yellareddy mandal from morning to afternoon on Thursday. He inspected a nursery at Hajipur, a milk chilling centre at Gandimasanipet, mini tank bund works on the Pedda Cheruvu bund in Yellareddy town, the Machapur anganwadi centre, and the Matthamala primary health centre, high school and society office. Noticing litter at the PHC, he directed doctor Sharath Kumar to have it cleaned. He finally inspected an Indiramma house at Safdalpur and spoke with beneficiaries.
Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy reviewed progress on the Uppal elevated corridor with Roads and Buildings officials and construction agency representatives, stating that delays and negligence would not be tolerated. He directed that manpower be increased to run work in three shifts, including from 11 pm to 6 am, and that the 6.25 km BT road under the corridor be finished by month-end. He said the target is to open the corridor by October 2026 (Dasara) and that he would inspect the site personally every ten days.
Mandal-level Praja Vani will be held from Monday to hear public grievances directly and resolve them quickly, MPDO Srinivasulu said. In a statement on Friday, he said the programme will be conducted at the Maganur MPDO office on the orders of the Narayanpet district collector. Complaints on land issues, pensions, ration cards, education, health, power, roads, drainage, drinking water and welfare schemes will be accepted. Officials from about 23 departments will be available, and applications will be forwarded to the concerned departments.
The passing out parade of the 2025-26 batch of SCTPC civil constables was held at the Police Training College in Anantapur. State Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav attended as chief guest and said the khaki uniform brings responsibility along with authority, and that police on the roads are the government's visible representatives. With cyber crimes rising, he said police must continuously learn technology. He noted the state's largest batch is passing out from Anantapur.
Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vakiti Srihari unveiled a statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar in the premises of the Karimnagar RTC bus stand. MLAs Medipalli Satyam and Kavampalli Satyanarayana, Mayor Kolagani Srinivas, former MLA Arepalli Mohan, the district collector, the police commissioner and RTC officials took part. Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Commissioner Shaik Aleem Basha said drainage desilting and sanitation works taken up on Minister Nara Lokesh's directions have significantly reduced obstructions to rainwater flow. Residents of Koutala mandal in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district say a tiger has been moving in the area for the past three days. Farmers and the local sarpanch found pugmarks in farmland on the outskirts of Gundayipeta village and informed the forest department. On the orders of Sirpur forest range officer Srinivas, FSO Tulsidas Naik inspected the fields and confirmed the pugmarks. Officials said traces indicated movement from Tatipalli towards Gundayipeta, and advised alertness in the Pranahita and Pen Ganga areas.
Two people were killed on the spot and three were seriously injured when a car rammed a stationary lorry from behind on the national highway at Singarayakonda. Police said five people were travelling in the car; two women seated at the rear and one man were injured and shifted to Ongole RIMS in a 108 ambulance. The deceased were identified as residents of Tirupati in Chittoor district, travelling from Tirupati to Vijayawada. Police removed the trapped bodies with difficulty and are investigating.
Ganesh immersion processions were held at several places on Friday after nine days of worship. In Adilabad, the Vinayak Chowk Sri Saraswati Sishu Mandir public procession was launched by Collector Rajarshi Shah, SP Akhil Mahajan, MP Godam Nagesh, MLA Payal Shankar and municipal chairperson Bandari Anusha. In Nizamabad, TPCC president Mahesh Goud and Urban MLA Dhanpal Suryanarayana started the procession chariot, which moved through city streets up to Basara. In Nirmal, MLA Eleti Maheshwar Reddy and SP Janaki Sharmila opened the celebrations. Mancherial, Sircilla and Kagaznagar saw immersions amid heavy police security.
Tension prevailed at Basara in Nirmal district after the state ABVP called for a siege of the IIIT, with activists arriving from various areas. Police imposed restrictions within two kilometres of the institute and blocked media personnel, sending them back, saying the district SP had directed that media not be allowed near the IIIT. Activists arrested near the temple, railway station, bus stand and Bidrelli were shifted to Mudhole police station. Every passenger is being checked at the railway station, and check posts were set up on Basara's borders.
