From Bandela Narsamma's house, 9 tolas of gold, 80 tolas of silver and Rs 2 lakh in cash were stolen. Alerted by family members, police reached the spot, registered a case and began investigating using CCTV footage.
Police in Telangana's Narayanpet district seized 10 tonnes of fake HT cotton seeds valued at about Rs 1 crore. SP Dr Vineeth said district police, a task force and the agriculture department raided Bandagonda village in Narayanpet mandal and Bhuneed in Kothapalli mandal on Sunday evening. The seeds were recovered from the homes of V. Balakrishna Naidu and Sasivardhan Naidu of Bhuneed. Two cases were registered. District Agriculture Officer John Sudhakar said the quantity was enough to sow three mandals.
Burglars struck the house of document writer Prasad at Vishnupriya Nagar in Jaggayyapeta, NTR district, while the family was away at the Mahakumbh Mela since Tuesday morning. The CCTV feed to the owner's phone stopped at midnight. The intruders cut camera wires, turned nearby cameras away and removed the hard disk, WiFi camera and NVR system. The owner said about 162 grams of gold items were taken. A Vijayawada clues team collected evidence; ACP Tilak said the accused would be caught soon.
Thieves broke into four houses in Chillapalli village of Peddashankarampet mandal in Telangana's Medak district on Thursday midnight. Family members said over 100 tolas of gold jewellery and one kilogram of silver articles were taken from Rayini Ramulu's house. Two tolas of gold was stolen from Esireddy Manikreddy's house, three masala of gold from Jaggu Chinna Mallareddy's house, and earrings and an anklet chain from Jaggu Arundhati's house. Alladurgam CI Renuka Reddy and SI Praveen Reddy inspected the site; CCTV footage is being examined.
Kodanda Shivaji, 30, of Gosangi Colony in Kamareddy district headquarters was killed on Sunday night. According to CI Narahari, a quarrel broke out after Shivaji asked his wife Lakshmi to cook non-vegetarian curry and she refused. Lakshmi attacked him with a sickle, causing deep injuries to his throat and neck, and he died on the spot due to heavy bleeding. Neighbours informed police, who took Lakshmi into custody. The couple had been quarrelling for a week and have two daughters, aged one and two.
Red sandalwood smugglers and labourers attacked police in the Seshachalam forests of Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh. The incident occurred when police tried to stop them as logs were being moved from a dumping point near Kavali in Sundupalli mandal. The smugglers fled after the attack. Police arrested Govindan, a native of Tamil Nadu, and seized 26 logs worth Rs 80 lakh along with two knives and two axes. Additional SP Venkatadri said a search was on for 10 labourers who escaped.
A man hacked his father to death with an axe at Baimidi Thanda in Peddemul mandal of Vikarabad district. According to Tandur Rural CI Praveen Kumar Reddy, Rathod Lokya Naik, an alcoholic, frequently harassed his wife Bikki Bai and daughter. After an attack on Friday, the mother informed her son Sunil Naik, an auto driver in Hyderabad, who reached the village and confronted his father. In the quarrel he struck Lokya Naik on the neck and head, killing him. The accused was arrested and remanded on Saturday.
A road accident took place on Friday within the limits of Edulapuram municipality in Khammam district. A lorry hit a bike near Belief Hospital on the bypass road, and the man riding the bike died on the spot. Police identified the deceased as Gopi of Namavaram village, who is said to have worked as a mechanic at a local showroom. Eyewitnesses said the lorry came at speed from the Naidupet side as he was crossing a U-turn. Police registered a case and began an investigation.
Hyderabad police have launched 'C-Mitra', a virtual helpdesk that lets cyber fraud victims complete the complaint process without visiting a police station, described as the first such system in the country. After a complaint on 1930 or the national cyber portal, virtual police officers call victims and send an AI-prepared draft. The signed copy must be sent by post, courier or drop box. A 24-member team works 8 am to 8 pm. Cases up to Rs 3 lakh will be registered as zero FIRs.
