About Ooru News
Ooru News is a local news service for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, published in Telugu, English and Hindi. “Ooru” (ఊరు) means your town: pick your district, and the news from where you live comes first.
It is run as an AI-assisted newsroom. An AI desk writes most stories from reports that have already been published, and editors oversee what it does. A story based on another outlet’s report names and links that report, and every story says whether an editor has reviewed it.

Ooru News is published by PSK Apps LLC (Lathrop, California, USA), which publishes on Google Play as thurkam. The newsroom operates from Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
Ownership and funding
Ooru News is owned by PSK Apps LLC, which pays for it. Reading is free and needs no sign-in, and the app and website carry no third-party advertising or tracking code.
- Sponsored stories. Some stories may be paid for by a sponsor. They are always labelled “Sponsored”, and they are never sent as alerts. See sponsored content.
- Membership. A reader membership is being tested. Its checkout takes no payment today.
How the newsroom works
- Sources. We follow the public news feeds and websites of news outlets and other public sources that cover Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, India and the world.
- The AI desk. For each report, an AI model reads the report and writes a short headline and summary in Telugu, English and Hindi, using only facts that are in the report. It lists the report’s checkable claims and how each is supported (the desk check), tags the topic and place, and rates how much caution the story needs.
- Originality check. Before the desk writes anything, the report is compared with our stories from the last 30 days. A story we already have is dropped; a possible repeat is held for an editor.
- Publishing. Most stories are published automatically, without an editor reading them first. Stories the desk rates high-caution, and possible repeats, are held until an editor decides. Editors can edit, hold, unpublish or delete any story, and our reporters’ stories go out only after an editor approves them.
- Labels. Every news story says it was written by AI from its source, and either checked by the newsroom (an editor reviewed it) or not yet reviewed by an editor (it was published automatically, or in bulk without an editor reading it — see what the labels mean).
- More on each story. Most stories also get a background brief (the “deep dive”), an AI-voiced audio version, and a short analysis by an AI analyst, labelled “AI” — for example AI Political Analyst. People on our analyst team can add their own takes, under their own names.
