Codelco probes fresh signs of overstated copper production
Chilean state-owned miner Codelco is investigating fresh evidence that copper production may have been double counted in 2024 and 2025. Material may have been recorded as output by more than one division, inflating figures reported by the Ministro Hales and Salvador mines, the company said. Codelco submitted findings to prosecutors and hired Ernst & Young. CEO Jorge Gomez said irregularities would be fully investigated and sanctions applied. An earlier audit found 27,000 tons improperly recognised.
