Madhya Pradesh forest chief's CFR rights order put on hold

Madhya Pradesh ·

Madhya Pradesh Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Manoj Aggarwal issued a letter on August 6 directing forest officials to receive Community Forest Resource (CFR) claims from Gram Sabhas at meetings scheduled for August 15. A Frontline report said the Forest Rights Act vests nodal authority in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and the forest department cannot issue directions on forest rights. After the Lok Swashasan Andolan objected on September 27, the PCCF put the directive on hold on September 30.
