Women twice as likely as men to use public transport to work

The National Household Travel Survey shows nearly 67% of women who commuted to work relied on walking, buses or other public transport, against 33% of men. In rural Madhya Pradesh, 88.7% of women walked and only 2.0% used buses, while in Kerala 20.1% walked and 48.6% used buses, the highest rural bus share. In at least 13 major States, more men than women reached work in about 30 minutes. The survey was conducted by the NSO under MoSPI.
