India can rise rapidly in global power hierarchy: Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India has the potential to move rapidly up the global power hierarchy over the next five to 10 years. Speaking at the Munich Leaders Meeting in New Delhi, he cited decades of high growth ahead, a supportive demographic profile and new economic opportunities, adding India need not follow the earlier path of industrialisation. Among middle powers, some would peel off, stay put or drop down, he said. He said the US and China are not middle powers, with China accounting for one third of global manufacturing.
