Five arrested over marriage of minor girl in Chittoor
Kallur police in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district arrested five people on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) in connection with the marriage of a minor girl to a young man from Kadapa district. Police said the marriage took place on Sunday night. Acting on information from neighbourhood residents, they rescued the girl and moved her to a government home in Tirupati. Based on her complaint, the groom, his parents, the girl's mother and a mediator were arrested, produced before the district court and remanded in judicial custody. Investigation continues.
