Indonesia's halal rules to raise costs for Indian exporters: GTRI

Indonesia's mandatory halal certification rules, effective from October 17, will increase compliance burden and certification costs for Indian exporters, the Global Trade Research Initiative said. The rules cover food, beverages, agricultural products, medicines, chemicals and cosmetics. Self-declarations will no longer be valid; certificates must come from bodies with mutual recognition agreements with Indonesia's BPJPH, with registration on the SiHalal portal. Missing the deadline could mean shipment holds, import rejections and recalls. India's exports to Indonesia fell 16.52% from $5.38 billion to $4.49 billion.
