Smriti Mandhana named India women's cricket captain
The BCCI has appointed Smriti Mandhana as captain of the Indian women's cricket team, replacing Harmanpreet Kaur, who stepped down from the role in all three formats on Tuesday. The decision followed a review meeting in Guwahati chaired by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and attended by Harmanpreet, Mandhana and coach Amol Muzumdar. Mandhana, who debuted in 2013, has played nine Tests, 120 ODIs and 179 T20Is, captained India in 18 T20Is and four ODIs, and led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the 2024 and 2026 WPL titles.
