India's markets slide despite over 7% economic growth
India's economy is growing at over 7%, yet it has one of the world's worst performing major equity markets in 2026. The Sensex and Nifty fell for eight straight weeks, the longest losing streak in 25 years, Reuters reported. Nifty investors' wealth has eroded about 15% this year, while foreign institutional investors withdrew $40bn in two years, Bernstein Research said. Crude at $90-$100, rising global rates, a weaker rupee, valuations and a missing AI story are blamed.
