NIO-Goa flags 14 breach-prone stretches on Godavari in Konaseema
Experts from the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO-Goa), led by Chief Scientist Jaya Kumar Seelam, have identified 14 breach-prone locations along the Gouthami and Vasista branches of the Godavari in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. At a review meeting, Collector R. Mahesh Kumar directed officials to prepare a DPR and socio-economic study on the impact on villages, crops and assets. He said experts recommended the riprap method, with geo-textile being examined to cut costs. Silting at the Konavaram and Rameswaram drains is submerging nearly 15,000 acres.
