IMD forecasts light rain in Chennai, heavier showers in interior Tamil Nadu
Intense rain activity is likely to shift towards interior Tamil Nadu over the next few days, with Chennai and other coastal areas getting occasional light spells, IMD said. Heavy rain is forecast at isolated places over the Western Ghats and moderate rain over southern Tamil Nadu on Sunday. IMD official V R Durai attributed the rain to two upper-air circulations over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and the Comorin area, with a trough between them. Chennai has recorded 38cm since June 1, 15% below normal. The northeast monsoon is expected between Oct 15 and 21.
