Australia launches campaign for UN Security Council seat
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese last week formally launched his country's campaign at the UN General Assembly for a non-permanent Security Council seat for 2029-2030. Australia last held such a seat in 2013-2014. Albanese said foreign conflicts would increasingly affect Australia's security, economy and way of life. The campaign centres on a rules-based international order, protecting the sovereignty of smaller states, ocean and climate security, and acting as a voice for Pacific Island countries.
