80% turnout in Bengal bypolls amid rigging allegations
Bypolls in three states and one Union territory recorded high but uneven turnout on Tuesday. Bengal's Nandigram and Rejinagar polled 80% amid allegations of rigging, voter intimidation and police interference. AJUP chief Humayun Kabir was detained for 12 hours after police accused him of provoking tension. Congress candidate Milan Pradhan said the election had been "looted". Polling in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Assam's Nagaon was largely peaceful. Counting is on October 9.
