Gulf depression may strengthen into Tropical Storm Isaias
Tropical Depression Nine has formed in the western Gulf of Mexico and is forecast to become Tropical Storm Isaias once winds reach at least 39 mph, the National Hurricane Center said. Forecasters expect it to strengthen into the 2026 Atlantic season's first hurricane late in the week, with a possible landfall between Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle by late Friday or early Saturday, likely at Category 1 or 2. Some areas could get 10 inches of rain, with storm surge, winds and isolated tornadoes possible.
