RBI expected to raise repo rate by 25 bps; home loan EMIs may rise
A Moneycontrol poll of 19 economists and fixed-income experts showed a majority expect the RBI to raise the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.5 percent at its October 7 monetary policy review, the first increase since February 2023. On a Rs 50 lakh loan at 7.5 percent over 25 years, the EMI of about Rs 36,950 would rise by roughly Rs 817 a month, said BankBazaar CEO Adhil Shetty. Existing fixed deposits will earn the booked rate until maturity.
