Rajnath Singh launches Navy's Fleet Support Ship-1 at Visakhapatnam
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday (6 October) launched the Indian Navy's Fleet Support Ship-1 (FSS-1) at Hindustan Shipyard Ltd in Visakhapatnam. He also laid the keel of FSS-5 and opened the upgraded Slipway-4 with a 300-tonne Goliath crane, which a Press Information Bureau release said will let the yard build vessels up to 45,000 DWT. FSS-1 was launched 18 months after steel cutting. The five 43,500-tonne ships will replenish warships at sea. Admiral Krishna Swaminathan and Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla attended.
