1937 Savoy Hotel in Miami Beach faces demolition for tower

Allied Partners has filed plans to demolish most of the Savoy Hotel, an Art Deco landmark standing on Miami Beach's Ocean Drive since 1937, and the neighbouring 1941 Arlington Hotel, for a 38-story, 480-foot tower. The proposal relies on Florida's Live Local Act and the Resiliency and Safe Structures Act. Only the Savoy's lobby and part of its facade would be retained. Commissioner Alex Fernandez said the city's authority to stop such demolitions has been stripped.
