Spain calls snap elections after housing reforms defeated

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called snap elections on Monday, days after his left-wing minority government failed to pass emergency measures on the worsening housing crisis. The vote will be held on Nov. 29. On Friday, the conservative opposition rejected two proposals — freezing evictions of vulnerable tenants until 2030 and allowing automatic rent renewals without rate increases — arguing intervention would raise prices. Sánchez's Spanish Socialist Workers' Party is trailing in almost every local opinion poll.
