Christa Pike conscious after failed Tennessee execution, lawyers say
Tennessee inmate Christa Pike is conscious and speaking after surviving a failed execution at a Nashville prison last Wednesday, her attorneys said on Tuesday. They said two doses of the lethal injection drug pentobarbital left her arms burned and blistered. Dr. Joel Zivot, an expert consulted by her legal team, said she is off a ventilator but remains in intensive care and not free of serious risk. Pike was sentenced to death for a classmate's 1995 murder.
