Bird flu confirmed at Anantapur poultry farm; 2,500 chickens dead

Avian influenza has been confirmed at a poultry farm in Siddarampuram village of Bukkarayasamudram mandal, Anantapur district, where about 2,500 country chickens died. Samples sent to NIHSAD, Bhopal, confirmed the infection in a report received on Sunday. Officials suspect birds brought from Adilabad in Telangana spread the virus. Surveillance and preventive measures are in place within a 10-km radius. Animal husbandry joint director P Premchand said poultry and egg movement in and out of the village will be restricted for three months.
