Karnataka drought severe, normal conditions expected next year: UAS VC
Karnataka is facing a severe drought caused by rainfall deficit and uneven distribution, said Dr SV Suresha, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, in an interview with TNIE. He said about 75-80 per cent of crops have been sown and the rainfall deficit is around 30 per cent, varying across districts. A 2-degree temperature rise could cut yields by about 30 per cent. Krishi Vigyan Kendras are advising 50,000-60,000 farmers, and conditions are expected to normalise next year.
