French school protests widen; tear gas used in Paris, Marseille
Protests by French high-school pupils have spread to parents, university students and unions, with hundreds of thousands marching nationwide. Police used tear gas in Paris and Marseille and water cannon in Rennes, and clashed with demonstrators in Lyon. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said 215 students, 85 staff and 715 police officers had been hurt since the protests began. The government reported disruption in 891 high schools and over 250,000 demonstrators on Tuesday; student unions claimed 450,000 and 1,800 blockaded schools. The interior ministry said 6,547 people had been stopped or arrested since 28 September.
